The 17-year-old has cystic fibrosis and cannot walk. His mother has to lay him down to rest, and his father does all of his care for him. "He goes to bed in the middle of the night crying out in pain," Michael Edwards said. "He's been neglected, you can see his ribs, he's just a skeleton." Edwards adopted the boy because he desperately needed a family to love him. The boy's mother and father are not together. "What a difference in his life it is," Edwards said. Now, the New Jersey man is helping the teen get well by cutting the cost of his medications and food. "When he came to our door, you could see the hunger in his eyes," Edwards said. "We've been able to provide a better quality of life for this kid." His mother doesn't want to talk to the media. "I don't want anybody knowing who I am because I know that they could take him away and I don't want that," the boy's mother said. His mother's last wish is that he rest in peace. He said he wants to die at home, and he's hoping his adopted family can help make it happen. "I want to just give him the peace he deserves," Edwards said. He's created an email address for the boy and wants to keep writing to him. He says the emails will help keep him going and give him courage. "My hope is that he will appreciate the thoughts and the caring," Edwards said.
